Autograph letter signed, 2pp, 8vo, 6, Adelphi Terrace, Strand, 23 April 1883. To Edward Draper, thanking him for his kind remarks, and for sending his songs, which Blanchard has been singing to his wife "with just applause and a spontaneous encore!" Blanchard continues: "I only wish I could send you by return anything of mine half as amusing but I must nevertheless ask you to accept in memory of an old and extended friendship -- a copy of the first number of 'Flights of Fancy' the others to follow at regular intervals." Together with a rare printed pamphlet (4pp, 8vo, Edinburgh Castle Tavern, Strand, 28 August, 1875) of Blanchard's poem, "John's Birth-day," inscribed by the author on the first leaf, "To Edward Draper with the kindest feelings of his old friend E.L. Blanchard." The poem was written to honour the 25 years' service of the head-waiter at the Edinburgh Castle Tavern in the Strand and consists of 8 long verses. Both items a bit worn, with residue on rectos from prior mounting, but in good condition.

Edward L. Blanchard (1820-1889); English author, Pantomime producer at Drury Lane. (Item ID: 9414)
