Autograph letter signed, 2 1/4pp, 8vo, 58 Biddulph Mansions, Elgin Avenue, 1 February 1923. To [Roger] Ingpen, accepting terms for the publication of his book in England, but questioning the fairness of arrangements made for sale of the book in the United States. ". . .I do not quite see why the American publisher should be able to sell the book for his own profit without any benefit accruing to the author, or I suppose to the artist. I take it that under our agreement, which I imagine is rather an unusual one, I am not surrendering my copyright but only selling you the first 2000 copies; and in that case surely I have some rights in the 1000 going to America." He discloses that he has already written 3000 words, and is "not displeased with what I have done, though I expect I shall do a good deal of revising before you see it." Somewhat soiled and worn; rust-stained and torn from a paper clip in the upper left corner, otherwise in good state.

Francis Bickley (1885-1976); English author. (Item ID: 9035)
