3 autograph letters signed, 5pp, 8vo, on printed letterheads of the "Punch" Office, 10 Bouverie Street, London, Whitefriars, London, E.C., and 2 Whitehall Court, S.W., London, 6 March and 24 July 1906, and 12 January 1914. To "Archie" [Archibald Marshall], commenting on some articles and proposals Marshall has submitted to "Punch," and thanking Marshall for his sympathy during Seaman's recent illness: "[6 March 1906] The articles you have sent me seem to differ very considerably from the one you send to the P.M. Mag. The charm of that was the almost total absence of facts to go upon, so that everything was filled in from conjecture. In those you have sent me . . . . there is far too much actual history. . . ."; "[6 March 1906] Your biography . . . amuses me, but I don't think it would make quite a satisfactory member of the series. . . . I am afraid it is late in the day to make a joke about French politics[?]. Also I am not sure that the attention to Vachells book might not be regarded as libellous. . . ."; and "[12 Jan. 1914] I am bearing up as well as could be expected. . . . A proof should reach you soon. Please send me some more. . . ." Together with the printed Order of Service (small 8vo, 8pp, stapled as issued) for Seaman's funeral in 1936. All items a little soiled, worn or foxed; but generally in good condition.

Owen Seaman (1861-1936); English parodist, poet, editor. (Item ID: 7688)
