Autograph letter signed, one page, 8vo, 25 Bedford Square, Wednesday, no date (but postmarked on the integral address leaf "SP 25 1836''). To Peter Cunningham, here addressed as "Peter the Great,'' thanking him for his "little book. I meant to come up to say this to you & also to see Moxon, but I cannot. I have scarcely time to write this letter. I am going out of town, but shall be back in a fortnight....'' Worn and soiled, weak at center fold, but good.

This letter refers to Cunningham's first publication, The Poems of William Drummond of Hawthornden, with Life, published in 1833. Barry Cornwall pseud. of Bryan Waller Procter, 1787-1874, English author. His sentimental songs were much in vogue during his lifetime. Included among Cornwall's longer works are Dramatic Scenes (1819) and Mirandola (1821), a tragedy. He enjoyed the friendship of many of the notable men of his time, including Charles Lamb, of whom he wrote a biography which appeared in 1866. He was the father of the poet Adelaide Procter.
