Autograph letter signed, one page, 8vo, 6 Pembroke Square, 23 May 1837. A good letter, on publishing topics, to William Cooke (possibly the line engraver): "I have done the best I could for the Richmond publication it will I think be long enough and not too long. I have written some of it several times over in order to get in as much as I could and have directed the tourist to each view as he would reach them. I wish to correct the proofs myself. . . .' Minor traces of paper tape along verso center fold, but in very good condition.

Barbara Hofland (1770-1844); English author. Upon the death of her husband in 1805, she published her first work, a volume of poems, in an attempt to support herself and her infant son. By 1824 she had produced upwards of twenty works of fiction, includingher most famous novel The Son of A Genius, which first appeared in 1816.
