Interesting autograph letter signed, 3pp., 4to, Ormond Place, Richmond, 6 Dec 1843. To the historical painter Charles West Cope writing "to congratulate you on your success as a painter of the Cartoons, to which I may now add your entrance in to the Royal Academy. I am truly rejoiced to see you are so rapidly gaining the fame you so well merit. . . ." In a postscript Hofland asks: "I fear you do not know of any school or town where a landscape painter could get employment? I know a young man of decided abilities who wants it much." A trifle stained from previous mounting, but very good.
