Autograph letter signed, one page, measuring approximately 7" x 9", Authors' Club, 3 Whitehall, February 19, 1894. To the publishers, Ward, Lock & Bowden, who were interested in publishing his work: ". . . In response to your inquiry I regret that I am unable to offer you a novel for publication in volume form in England. I have one completed since 'Edged Tools' the serial rights of which I am prepared to treat for, - also the volume form for America or serial rights and volume form in America or the colonies. For volume publication in England I am engaged a long way ahead. It would give me great pleasure to inaugurate business with your good selves if it can be managed. Again urging upon you the necessity of suppressing for the moment the authorship of the serial running in Cornhill." Foxed and worn; tape-repaired. Scott's letters are rare. (Item ID: 3164)
