A small slip of paper, 2" x 3", upon which John Wilson has written: "Blackwoods Magazine, The 5 last volumes, J. Wilson, 15th June [18]33.'' This note appears to be some sort of request or receipt and the whole has also been neatly crossed through by two X's in ink as if to cancel it. Tipped to a sheet from an album; just a trifle dust-soiled, but good.

In 1822 Wilson began to delight the public, through Blackwood's Magazine, with his Noctes Ambrosiannae, modeling his "Ettrick Shepherd'' after James Hogg and using himself as a prompter to the "Shepherd'' under the name "Christopher North.'' (Item ID: 2933)
