Carte-de-visite photograph of John B. Gough distributed by S.M. Fassett's New Gallery 114 & 116 South Clark St., Chicago. A head-and-shoulders image of the orator facing to his left. Gough has signed his name across the bottom border of the card. Reverse has printed information of studio location. Some paper loss to backing from being affixed in an album, very minor soiling, otherwise very good.
John Bartholomew Gough (1817-1886); English-born American temperance lecturer and author. A reformed alcoholic and "one of the most accomplished platform orators in America." Shortly before his death, Gough estimated that he had delivered more than 9600 lectures to over nine million people. [DAB] (Item ID: 22991)
