Typed note signed and a typed letter signed (with a 4-line holograph postscript), 3pp, 4to and 8vo, on blindstamped letterhead of Eilean Aigas, Beauly, Inverness-Shire, and on printed letterhead of Sudbrook Lodge, Ham Common, Surrey, 21 February 1933 through 13 June 1945, with one original holograph mailing envelope (soiled; usual postmarks and wear; flap cut away). To [Captain?] Frederick Cowles, asking that he "send along your book, and I will see what I can do" and discussing certain historical plaids: ". . . I can let you have a plaid that belonged to Flora Macdonald. . . . [I]t is a very fine example of Clanranald tartan of the period. I could also let you have my own sporran, the brass part of which was found on the field of Culloden. . . . When does your exhibition start? I much appreciated what you wrote in the Bulletin about The North Wind. Apart from a sympathetic review by Richard Church, and a [sic] understanding one in Cavalcade there was not a word of recognition anywhere. I hope you are right and that the texture of the whole work is stout enough to preserve the pattern for another generation. . . ." Folds (one letter with folds weakening and thin in spots); some soiling and wear, and with shorter note mounted to another sheet; else in good condition overall. (Item ID: 22385)
