Typed letter signed ("W.C. Williams"), one page, 4to, on personal printed letterhead of 9 Ridge Road, Rutherford, New Jersey, 20 November 1951, with the original matching envelope (flap torn; usual wear). To Gene Boro at the University of Florida, concerning a professional engagement: "That sounds excessively formal, but there seems nothing else for it but to begin that way. . . . If sometime during [February or March] you find that you'd like to have me read or lecture there . . . I'd be glad to consider making the trip. . . . [H]aving you here gave me a good idea of what I had in the attic. . . . There it shall remain until I go broke or my heirs take it over. . . . I'm working on a novel for Random House, that accounts for the style of this letter: I'm pooped out, nothing more to say after batting my brains over that story all morning long. It's late in the afternoon. . . . I feel as if I haven't an idea in me. My good right index finger seems also to be laying down on the job, I'm missing the proper keys. . . . [W]rite to me again if you find that your program is likely to go through. . . . [I]t smells as if my wife is burning the supper!. . . ." With an amusing postscript in his wife's hand reading: "No -- I didn't burn the supper! Where is Gain[e]sville? F.H.W." Very minor soiling on verso; folds; else fine. (Item ID: 21088)
