Typed postcard signed ("Yrs JVS [i.e. Sheean]"), one page, oblong 12mo, on printed letterhead of Twin Farms, South Pomfret, Vermont, 17 July 1939. To Leonard Lyons at the New York Post, writing: "No, we ain't impostoring [sic] much hereabouts. I ride every morning and read Marx every night. It's a good combination. Your Nazi stories greatly appreciated. The family stays on here till October, but I'm going to be in Mexico . . . for a month. . . . Flying both ways. . . ." Some toning and wear; verso (address panel) badly browned from glue stains; postmarks across portions of text; else good.

(James) Vincent Sheean (1899&1975); American author and foreign correspondent. With his book Personal History, a combination of autobiography and political commentary, Sheean helped to create the genre of book journalism. He also published several biographies. Leonard Lyons (1906-1976); American journalist and theater critic, married to Sylvia Lyons. His Broadway column, "The Lyons Den" (originally written for The New York Post and later syndicated) spanned the years 1934-1974.
