Autograph letter signed, 3pp, 8vo, Angus Temperance Hotel, Blackfriars Bridge, London, 24 April 1876. To Mr. Anderson, reporting at length on an exhibition at the Royal Academy: "My 'Snow Scene' has been rejected . . . but the other 2 are very well hung. . . . Henderson has his 2 in but both skied. J.D. Adams is skied also. . . . The Edinburgh artists are conspicuous by their absence. . . . McTaggart rejected. G.P. Chalmers 3 or 4 all on the line. Of the other Scotch Exhibitors, Peter Graham and Mac Whirter have come off best . . . . Taking it all in all the Exhibition is a very poor one. The only picture likely to be talked about is one by S.L. Fildes. I never saw so much rubbish in the Academy before. Let me know by return if I am to get the picture 'Sunshine and Shadow' marked sold on the opening day and also if you would like me to send a catalogue. . . ." A bit soiled and a little foxed; clean tear at horizontal center fold (no loss of paper); remains of prior mounting on verso, else good.

A.K. Brown; English artist. (Item ID: 19483)
