Scarce autograph letter signed , one page, 8vo, on printed letterhead of New College, Oxford [crossed through and amended in holograph to read: King's Mead, Windsor Forest], n.d. To an illegible recipient, saying: "It's much too hot to write more than Congratulations -- so multiply them indefinitely. I'm sorry no one else keeps you company in Law: but we're all right on Theol: and Math:. . . ." Remains of prior mounting on (blank) verso; small pin hole, just a trifle foxed; good.

Probably an early letter written shortly after Johnson completed his course of studies at New College in 1890, his correspondent being most likely a fellow undergraduate. (Item ID: 18885)
