2 autograph letters signed ("George"), 2pp., 4to, on printed letterhead (decorated with a crest) of The Royalton, 44 West Forty-Fourth Street, New York, and on personal printed letterhead of the same address, 11 July 1942 and 6 October 1948, with one original holograph mailing envelope. To Leonard [Lyons], concerning the nature of a libel suit, and praising the writing of Lyons' wife, Sylvia: ". . . Pecora covers only civil action. Libel is both civil & criminal. In the latter, truth is not always a defense. Consult dozens of legal decisions. . . . Pecora will substantiate this, I am certain. However, I have already magnanimously paid you the $2,000 in cash."; "Sylvia's article on the young athlete . . . is excellent. Why doesn't she undertake a series about the boys with a small book in view? I thoroughly believe that it would be . . . a considerable success. Her humorous, yet honest, treatment is very appealing." Together with a small slip of paper upon which is pencilled in an unknown hand, the quotation: "In a civil action for Libel -- the truth is a complete defense", which is attributed to F. Pecora. Upper right corner of one letter clipped away; a few small pieces of cellophane tape (now browned); very minor chipping; else good.
