Carte-de-visite photograph. A 3/4 view of Lever seated in a chair, shown in (left) profile. He is wearing a dark jacket and vest, and his hair has a somewhat windswept appearance. Imprint of Mayall, 224 Regent Street, beneath the image and (with more detail) on the reverse. Some light soiling and wear (mostly to mount) and with a few stray marks. Edges faded, else very good.
Charles James Lever (1806-1872); prolific Irish novelist who enjoyed a wide popularity in his own day. Many of his novels, including his first, Harry Lorrequer, were illustrated by Hablot Knight Brown ("Phiz"). (Item ID: 18077)
