Good autograph letter signed, 2pp, 8vo, on letterhead of The Poetry Review, Brook Street, Hastings, 1 April 1913. Phillips, for one of his plays, sets out his terms to Esme Percy: "I am so glad you are keen on 'Pietro' and want to do it because I shall get from you the poetic 'touch' which I want, and with regard to cost of production please understand that I expressly do not want elaborate mounting .... I think you should play Luigi particularly for the prison scene and the long speech about dawn .... As to terms I would take 25 down and five per cent on receipts which I think is fair enough .... there would be no limit of time as to when you should produce - just when it suited you. Or if you like I would sell the piece out for 100 down, forgoing future royalties. I should like to come to terms with you rather than others because I should get my atmosphere.'' Rather worn and frayed, but with no loss of text. Phillips' Pietro of Siena was published by Macmillan in 1910, and first produced by the Drama Society at the Studio Theatre on 10 October 1911.
