Carte-de-visite photograph. A 3/4 length portrait of Lemon steated in a chair, with his hands folded over the top of a cane or walking stick. He is wearing a dark jacket, and looks directly out at the viewer. With the printed caption: "MARK LEMON ESQre Editor of Punch Registered. London Stereosc. & Photog. Co." beneath the image. Decorative imprint on the reverse of the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, 54 Cheapside, London and at 110 Regent Street, Under the Patronage of Her Majesty. Sole Photographers to the International Exhibition 1862. Lightly faded and with some minor oxidization. A few small marks, else good.

Mark Lemon (1809-1870); English author, first Editor of Punch, a lifelong friend of Charles Dickens. In 1849 Lemon adapted The Haunted Man for the stage, and in 1851 he collaborated with Dickens in the farce, Mr. Nightingale's Diary. (Item ID: 16039)
