Autograph letter signed, 2pp, small 4to, on letterhead of the "Punch Office, 27, Bouverie Street, n.d. To Rev. James Beck, concerning a list of art and objects (pasted to the top of the sheet): "The above are scarcely worth your notice but they are at yr. service if you care to have them. . . . I forgot to ask what will be the charges for space . . . in the Riding House. Will you kindly inform me by return post. . . " A portion of a pink printed list of items (some crossed through) has been pasted to the top of the sheet, beneath which Lemon has written the additional items: "Model of Petrarch's Inkstand (in Silver) / Photo: & autographs of Garibaldi / A letter from him / and / I could get some Landscape's by good artists, I have no doubt. . . ." Some yellow glue stains spreading out from pink list; a little soiled; in good condition.

Mark Lemon (1809-1870); English author, first Editor of "Punch", a lifelong friend of Charles Dickens. In 1849 Lemon adapted "The Haunted Man" for the stage, and in 1851 he collaborated with Dickens in the farce, "Mr. Nightingale's Diary." (Item ID: 15859)
