Carte-de-visite photograph. A portrait of Rev. John Keble and his wife in a formal pose. She is seated in a chair, holding a book (presumably a bible) in her right hand, with her head bowed as if reading. He husband is standing at her side, facing her, with one hand on the book, and the other resting on the back of her chair. He looks directly at the camera. Uneven blue stamp on the verso indicating that the image was published by Marion Co. of London. Some fading and with occasional spotting and soiling, minor oxidization, else good.

John Keble (1792-1866); English poet and divine. Keble's best known work, The Christian Year 1827), was "probably the widest selling book of poetry in the nineteenth century." [Perry Butler in ODNB] On 10 October 1835 Keble married Charlotte Clarke (1806-1866). (Item ID: 12561)
