Charles Albert Fechter (1822-1879); English actor and playwright. He became a close friend of Dickens, and, with the novelist as his financial backer, leased the Lyceum Theater in 1863. In 1868 Fecter played the leading role of Jules Obenreizer in Wilkie Collins' and Dickens' drama, "No Throughoufare", adapted from the Christmas story which they wrote in collaboration. It was Fechter who presented Dickens with the Swiss chalet which became his writing place at Gad's Hill. (Item ID: 12507)
